Remembering

Today, the poppies’ flaming red,
Reminds us of the blood of the dead,
Shed in wars across our earth,
A needless deed of little worth,
Except for those who held back,
Evil’s dark and dreadful act,
Of slaying the innocent;
And one wonders, if a time will come,
When poppies’ flaming red will become,
A symbol of love to every race,
Bringing peace to this earthly place,
Uniting all of humanity,
In a more worthwhile sanity,
Of saving the living;
Like the orphans of A.I.D.S. in Africa,
Or the struggling poor in Asia,
Or those who live in drought-weary lands,
Oh, there’s plenty to do for our human hands,
If we only would open our hearts and eyes to see,
All the places of this world’s misery,
We could make a difference!
