For many years, I studied the Bible in a weekly Bible study lead by a Service In Missions (SIM) Missionary Pastor, Benjamin Devadason. I learned a lot about the Bible and began to mature as a Christian under his teaching. However, I did not grasp how to pray in the way God wants us to pray until many years later. Prayer is an essential and mandatory discipline of the Christian life that opens the door of our heart to hear what God wants us to know and do in His name as well as the laying down before our Lord the needs of others and our own.
Over the years what I have learnt most is that when I face a spiritual battle or a difficult situation, I must pray Scripture. WHY? Because the word of God is a sword of the Spirit with a double-edge that helps us stand our ground against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms that assault us. So I share this wonderful teaching from Pastor Benjamin that provides an overview of how to pray. May it bless your life.
“LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY”
- Pray SECRETLY (Matt 6:6)
- Pray SINCERELY
- Pray SPECIFICALLY
- Salvation of the lost(Rom 10:1);
- Sanctification (John 17:17)
- Service (To be Sent) Isaiah 6:8
- Strength (Judges 16:28)
- Security (2 Thess 3:2)
- Solace (2 Cor 1:3, 4)
4. Pray STEADFASTLY (Luke 18:1 to 8)
5. Pray SACRIFICIALLY
“Could you not watch with Me one hour?” (Matt 26:40)
Am I willing to give up sleep in order to pray?
Am I willing to give up a cherished activity in order to pray?
6. Pray SCRIPTURE
7. Pray Honestly – God knows everything anyway so be honest
